WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - In a vote by Conference coaches, Oregon sophomore Manuel Kost was named to the second team of the Pacific-10's All-Conference contingent for men's tennis on Tuesday.

"That's a big recognition for him," Oregon coach Chris Russell said. "To make that team, you have to be one of the better players in the country. I think it's a great tribute to where he is as a player and to where he is going to be in the future."

Kost, a native of Kuessnacht, Switzerland, finished the regular season with a 15-13 overall singles record. In doubles action, Kost played with freshman Thomas Bieri for all but two matches and compiled a record of 12-9.

Kost sat out the first month of the dual match season with an abdominal injury, but won his first five matches once he returned. During the season, Kost also defeated then-No. 10 Alex Vlaski of Washington and then-No. 12 David Martin of Stanford in straight sets.

Kost, who was named as an All-Pac-10 honorable mention a year ago, will play in the 2003 NCAA Championships in Athens, Ga., beginning May 21. Kost is currently ranked No. 51 in the country and had a season-high ranking of No. 46.
